Subject: Jet Pack Inventor Wows At Aviation Convention
Date: Jul 30, 2008 10:42

For years Hollywood has envisioned futuristic jets packs as small as fire extinguishers, but Glenn Martin’s new jet pack device is a piano-sized contraption weighing over 250 pounds that people get into instead of strapping on.
On Tuesday, thousands looked on as Martin’s 16-year-old son fastened himself to the jet pack prototype. The contraption roared like a motorcycle, and as Harrison Martin lifted three feet off the ground, the engine became so loud that children covered their ears.

Yesterday was the unveiling of the future of Aerospace Engineering. The Virgin Galactic. This will take passengers to space to experience zero gravity all for $200,000. There has already been 250 people sign up and pay deposits to be the firsts to ride. White Knight 2 is an aircraft that carries SpaceshipTwo under its wing for 50,000 feet and then releases it. The spaceship will soar up 62 miles above earth and then SpaceshipTwo will break off WhiteKnight Two where passengers can unbuckle and experience zero gravity like never before for five minutes. As of yesterday the Virgin Galactic has been revealed and is now going to undertake test flights. Here is an old article from RedOrbit that gives a little more detail about the Virgin Galactic: http://www.redorbit.com/news/space/1226560/virgin_galactic_unveils_new_spaceship/index.html

He is some updated news on Mr. Branson:

Subject: Aerospace Industry Faces Coming Worker Shortage

As the large baby boom generation retires over the next decade, the aerospace and defense industries will be particularly hard hit, and industry officials worry there are not enough qualified young Americans to take the place of these retiring Cold War scientists and engineers.

Hi, just joined RedOrbit & this group. I started the AeroGo blog a couple of years ago for engineering, science and other students - and anyone else - interested in going into the aerospace field. I try to cover stuff from a different perspective than all the usual sources. You'll find a lot of background information about stuff that you wouldn't normally learn in school or through the media. If you want to get "clued in" about aerospace technology, college and career advice, practical management skills, etc., then AeroGo is the place for you. You can check it out at http://www.xanga.com/AeroGo and feel free to participate if you've got some info or questions. Gordon
